Flights Murcia (MJV) - Great Deals on Flights to Murcia
FlightsMurcia.com is the website dedicated to bringing you cheap flights to Murcia!
The autonomous community of Murcia is located in the southeast of Spain on the Mediterranean coast and spreads inland. It is situated below the Valencian Community and above the autonomous region of Almeria. It is the coastal areas of Murcia that are predominantly favoured with tourists and much of the inland towns and villages have remained untouched and unspoiled by the massive construction boom of recent years.
Murcia and the surrounding regions have increasingly become one of the most popular traveller destinations in Spain, particularly since the millennium and beyond. The region has a lot to offer with its prime location on the Mediterranean coast, its hot summers and moderate winters and its relatively cheap prices. |
Although many of the visitors come to Murcia during the summer, there is generally a good influx of passengers all year round as the area is also favoured by golfers during the cooler months. The heat in the months of July and August can be extremely oppressive and unless you spend most of your time almost fully immersed in the sea or in a nearby swimming pool, it can often be quite uncomfortable if you are not used to high temperatures.
To cope with the surge in visitors, the airport has recently undergone a dramatic makeover that has consisted of the addition of extra check-in desks in the departure lounge, the increase of facilities such as shops and eating places within the restricted zone and a good lick of paint to make the airport look younger and much brighter.

The Murcia-San Javier (MJV) airport is located just outside the small town of Santiago de la Ribera, which falls under the municipality of San Javier, and is situated a short way off the AP7 motorway, approximately 28km from the city of Murcia. The closeness to the major motorway makes it very convenient to access the many nearby holiday resorts, towns, cities and urbanisations including La Manga, Torrevieja, Orihuela Costa, Cartagena, Mazarrón and not forgetting Murcia itself.
One of the few disadvantages of this area is that the public transport is very poor and in some areas non-existent. There are no railway, tram or Metro systems that link to the airport nor are there any buses that can take passengers to and from their destination to the airport.
The only means of arriving at or leaving the Murcia-San Javier airport is by car (either hire or a friend's) or by taxi.
There are a number of car hire rental companies located near the arrivals area of the airport including Centauro (Tel: 968 572 185), Europa Rent a Car (Tel: 968 336 523) and Europcar (Tel: 968 335 546). It is often best to book car rentals online before arriving in Spain for a cheaper deal.
Taxis are available from outside the terminal building throughout the day and it is not necessary to book one in advance as there are always several waiting outside, although when travelling to the airport, you must book a taxi from the area you are staying.
Taxi fares have increased over recent years and are no longer very cheap. A rough estimate in price is 1,20 euro per kilometre, which may vary depending on the time of day (it may be more expensive after 9pm and before 7am). If travelling from Torrevieja, located 34km away, expect to pay in the region of 40 euro for a one-way fare to the airport. Similarly, from Cartagena, La Manga or Mazarron, fares will cost approximately 36, 50 and 110 euro respectively. With these prices it may be worth checking out alternative transport, particularly hiring a car.
